Mount Olive won its fifth straight conference match as the Trojans posted an 8-1 victory over Coker in Conference Carolinas women's tennis Thursday at Hartsville, S.C. The win clinches a top five seed for Mount Olive in next weekend's conference tournament and keeps the Trojans' hopes alive for a top three seed.
Mount Olive (10-6 overall, 7-3 Conference Carolinas) took a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play. The Trojans dropped only a combined eight games in the three doubles matches.
The Trojans clinched the team win as Francesca Ceppi won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Roxanne Chouinard won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Maite Belloso, Samara Paldinho and Paulina Delgado also posted straight-set singles wins.
Mount Olive concludes regular season play Sunday as the Trojans travel to Gaffney, S.C., to take on Limestone. The Trojans are a game behind third-place Limestone and percentage points behind fourth-place Queens in the conference standings. Match time is 1 p.m.
