Mount Olive won two-of-three doubles matches and captured the top two singles flights, but Limestone came back to defeat the Trojans 5-4 in Conference Carolinas women's tennis Sunday at Gaffney, S.C. The loss drops Mount Olive to fifth place in the final regular season standings and gives the Trojans the No. 5 seed in this weekend's conference tournament.
Mount Olive (10-6 overall, 7-3 Conference Carolinas) led 2-1 after Molly Sue Lentini and Francesca Ceppi won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles and Samara Paldinho and Paulina Delgado won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles. Lentini won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Ceppi posted a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, but Limestone (13-7, 8-2) won the remaining four singles matches to claim the team win.
The Trojans begin play Friday in the 2013 Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Tournament at Sumter, S.C. The Trojans will face Limestone, Pfeiffer or Queens in the first round, whichever team gets the No. 4 seed. The championship match is scheduled for Sunday with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
