5th-Seeded Trojans Advance Past Pfeiffer In Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals

Mount Olive rushed to beat Mother Nature and Pfeiffer. By the midway point of singles competition, the fifth-seeded Trojans accomplished both and advanced in the Conference Carolinas women's tennis tournament 5-1 over fourth-seeded Pfeiffer Friday afternoon at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.

The Trojans (10-6) advance to play top-seeded Erskine in Saturday's semifinals. The match will begin after the conclusion of the Limestone-North Greenville match which was halted due to rain.

Against Pfeiffer, the Trojans were in the driver's seat after sweeping doubles competition. All-conference performers Molly Lentini and Francesca Ceppi were pushed to the limit in the closest match of the afternoon. The Trojans were pushed, but escaped with a 9-8 win over Taylor Lindsay and Valeria Mendoza at number one.

The Trojans cruised in the other two doubles matches, as Roxanne Chovinard and Maite Belloso won 8-1 at number two, then third-seeded Samara Paldinho and Paulina Delgado followed suit with an 8-1 decision.

In singles play, Lindsay gave the Falcons a boost with a 7-6, 6-1 win in the top position, but Bellosa at number four (6-4, 6-1) and Delgado at number six (6-0, 6-1) clinched the win.

Erskine advanced to the semifinals with a 5-0 win over Coker.
