Mount Olive suffered its first loss of the season as the Trojans fell to nationally 12th-ranked Francis Marion 7-2 in non-conference women's tennis Sunday at Walker Tennis Center. Maite Belloso accounted for both Trojan points, winning at No. 6 singles and combining with Alejandra Hernandez for a win at No. 2 doubles.
Belloso and Hernandez posted an 8-6 doubles win, but Mount Olive (4-1) trailed going into singles play after Francis Marion (2-0) won the other two doubles matches. The Patriots clinched the team win after winning each of the top three singles flights.
Belloso overcame a one-set deficit to give the Trojans their lone singles win, posting a 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 victory. A 10-point pro set was played for the final set.
Mount Olive is idle until February 20 when the Trojans play host to Chowan in a non-conference contest. Match time is 2:30 p.m. at Walker Tennis Center.
