University of Mount Olive posted its first shutout of the spring season as the Trojans defeated Converse 9-0 in Conference Carolinas women's tennis Saturday at Spartanburg, S.C. The Trojans won four of six singles matches in straight sets, including a 6-0, 6-0 victory by Roxanne Chouinard at No. 3 singles.
Mount Olive (8-2 overall, 3-1 Conference Carolinas) took a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play. Alejandra Hernandez (No. 2 singles), Paulina Delgado (No. 5 singles) and Maite Belloso (No. 6 singles) all posted straight-set wins. Francesca Ceppi (No. 1 singles) and Samara Paldinho (No. 4 singles) both split their first two sets and won a 10-point pro set.
The Trojans recorded a pair of shutouts during the fall, 5-0 wins over Catawba and Brevard in the Conference Carolinas/South Atlantic Conference Challenge in October.
Mount Olive returns to action Tuesday as the Trojans play host to UNC Pembroke in a non-conference match-up. Match time is 2 p.m. at Walker Tennis Center.
