University of Mount Olive won two-of-three doubles matches, but Barton came back with five singles wins for a 6-3 win over the Trojans in Conference Carolinas women's tennis Thursday at Wilson, N.C. The Trojans had entered the contest with four wins in their previous five matches.
Mount Olive (9-4 overall, 4-3 Conference Carolinas) took a 2-1 lead as Francesca Ceppi and Roxanne Chouinard won 9-8 at No. 1 doubles, while Alejandra Hernandez and Maite Belloso posted an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Chouinard won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, but Barton took the top two singles flights to even the match at 3-3. The Bulldogs then won at the Nos. 4-6 singles flights to secure the team victory.
Mount Olive is idle until April 3 when the Trojans play host to UNC Pembroke in a non-conference match. The contest was originally scheduled for March 18, but rescheduled due to rain. Match time is 3 p.m. at Walker Tennis Center.
