University of Mount Olive recorded its second consecutive shutout as the Trojans defeated Meredith College 9-0 in non-conference women's tennis Thursday at Raleigh, N.C. Paulina Delgado dropped only a combined two games in singles and doubles play.
Mount Olive (11-6) built a 3-0 lead after doubles play as Delgado combined with Samara Paldinho for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Francesca Ceppi and Roxanne Chouinard won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Alejandra Hernandez and Maite Belloso held off Meredith (11-6) 9-8 in a tie-breaker at No. 2 doubles.
Chouinard won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, while Ceppi and Hernandez won first-set tie-breakers on their way to straight set wins as Mount Olive clinched the team win. Paldinho won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, Delgado posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles and Nicole Karas won 7-6, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Mount Olive concludes regular season play Saturday as the Trojans play host to Wingate in non-conference women's and men's tennis. Match time is noon at Walker Tennis Center.
