Women's Tennis Rallies Past Chowan 5-4

Mariana Gamboa clinched the team victory with a three-set win at No. 6 singles as University of Mount Olive rallied for a 5-4 victory over Chowan University in non-conference women's tennis Sunday at Murfreesboro, N.C. The win was the Trojans' fourth in a row.

Mount Olive (5-1) trailed 4-2 with three singles matches remaining. Paulina Delgado won in straight sets at No. 4 singles and Maite Belloso posted a straight-set win at No. 5 singles to tie the match 4-4. Gamboa won the opening set 6-3, but dropped the second set 3-6 before rebounding to win the third set 6-3.

The Trojans led 2-1 after doubles play as Delgado and Jennifer Byrd won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles, while Belloso and Alejandra Hernandez eeked out a 9-8 win at No. 2 doubles.

Mount Olive returns to action as the Trojans travel to Pembroke, N.C., to take on UNC Pembroke in a non-conference match-up.
