Women's Tennis Falls To No. 49 Wingate 6-3

Francesca Ceppi and Roxanne Chouinard both won in straights in singles play for University of Mount Olive, but nationally 49th-ranked Wingate University won the remainder of the matches for a 6-3 victory over the Trojans in non-conference women's tennis Sunday at Wingate, N.C.

Ceppi and Chouinard won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, but Mount Olive (8-4) trailed 2-1 after doubles play. Paulina Delgado and Jennifer Byrd battled to a tie-breaker at No. 2 doubles. Ceppi posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. Chouinard won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles after Wingate (10-4) had built a 5-2 lead and clinched the team victory.

Mount Olive is off until this weekend when the Trojans travel to Upstate South Carolina for a pair of Conference Carolinas matches. The Trojans face Southern Wesleyan Friday and North Greenville Saturday.
