Women's Tennis Rallies For 6-3 Victory Over Belmont Abbey In Home Opener

University of Mount Olive won five of six singles matches to rally for a 6-3 victory over Belmont Abbey College in Conference Carolinas women's tennis Friday at Walker Tennis Center. The match was the Trojans' home opener.

Stella Di Michelle and Alejandra Hernandez posted an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles to give Mount Olive (2-3 overall, 2-1 Conference Carolinas), but Belmont Abbey (1-6, 0-2) won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead going into singles.

The Trojans took over in singles play to go onto the victory. Paulina Delgado won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while Di Michelle and Hernandez both posted straight-set wins at the top two singles flights. Mulan Bartz (No. 4 singles) and Mariana Gamboa (No. 5 singles) both won in three sets.

Mount Olive returns to action Tuesday as the Trojans play host to Chowan University in a non-conference match-up. Match time is 2 p.m. at Walker Tennis Center.
