Women's Tennis Captures First Conference Tournament Championship With 5-2 Win Over Barton

Sumter, S.C. – For the first time in program history, the University of Mount Olive women's tennis team captured the Conference Carolinas Tournament championship with a 5-2 victory over Barton College on Sunday morning at the Sumter Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.

  • The Trojans opened the match with a 2-1 advantage in doubles action.
  • Seniors Stella Di Michele and Julie Gonzalez-Rodriguez earned an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles.
  • Senior Alejandra Hernandez and freshman Areej Fareh followed with an 8-3 win of their own at No. 2 doubles.
  • UMO held its advantage in singles by capturing three of the four finished singles matchups.
  • Di Michele stormed past her opponent at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
  • At No. 6 singles, senior Mariana Gamboa glided past her opponent, 6-1, 6-0.
  • The Trojans clinched the match and the conference tournament championship as Fareh earned a come-from-behind, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles.
