Trojans Fall To Jags In Season Opener

FLORENCE, S.C. - The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team dropped the spring season opener as they fell to Augusta University in the first round of the City of Florence College Tennis Invitational.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • UMO found itself behind 2-1 after doubles action.
  • The Trojans only doubles win came from Alex Goffin and Jennifer Byrd who picked up the 8-5 win as the No. 2 doubles pair.
  • In singles action, the Trojans won two games but the Jags picked up three singles wins to pair with their two doubles points to win the match 5-3.
  • Sonja Gärtner downed the No. 1 player from Augusta in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, and freshman transfer Alex Goffin won in three at the No. 2 spot 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.
