Women's Tennis Drops Spring Home Opener To Catawba

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team fell 6-3 to the Indians of Catawba College on Friday afternoon at the John Neal Walker Tennis Courts in Mount Olive, N.C.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • UMO found themselves behind 2-1 after the doubles round.
  • Alex Goffin and Jennifer Byrd were the only doubles pair to win a set 8-2 putting a point on the board for the Trojans heading into singles.
  • UMO won the No. 1 and 5 singles matches but dropped the remaining four to Catawba as the Indians won the overall match 6-3.
  • Sonja Gärtner defeated her opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, giving UMO its second point.
  • Byrd played a competitive match on court five defeating Catawba's No. 5 player in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The Trojans are back in action again on Tuesday, February 27, as they travel to Murfreesboro, N.C. Mount Olive will faceoff against Conference Carolinas opponent Chowan University at 2 p.m. as both the men's and women's teams face the CU Hawks.
