SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team defeated the Valkyries of Converse College 8-1 in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action at the Converse Tennis Complex in Spartanburg, S.C.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • The Trojans came out of the doubles round leading the Valkyries 3-0 after winning all three doubles game.
  • Sonja Gärtner & Areej Fareh won 8-3 on court one while Jennifer Byrd & Nicole La Chappelle picked up a doubles win against the No. 2 duo 8-3.
  • Emma Burroughs & Caroline Carter won 8-4 in the No. 3 doubles flight as UMO entered singles needed two wins to clinch the match.
  • UMO went on to win five of the six singles matches taking the match 8-1 over Converse.
  • Gärtner won against the No. 1 Converse player in three sets, 7-6, 2-6, 10-1.
  • Fareh won 6-2, 6-4, as the No. 2 singles player and Byrd picked up a 6-4, 6-0, win in the No. 4 singles flight.
  • Burroughs won a tough fifth singles flight going 7-5, 7-5 in her two sets and Carter earned her first singles win of the season in the sixth flight 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).

UP NEXT

Mount Olive is back in action as they travel to Sumter, S.C., to compete in the Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Championship. The tournament begins April 20 and runs through the 22 with a champion being crowned.
