ITA Women's Southeast Regional Championships

SUMTER, South Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team sent four athletes down to Sumter, SC, for the ITA Southeast Regional Small College/Oracle Championships. 

TROJAN LEADERS

In the women's open singles Liza Voloshyna and Arianna Orozco both defeated their first-round opponents. Voloshyna won 6-2, 6-1 over Catawba's Charisma Nuqui while Orozco defeated Queens' Kate Halickman in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

In round two, Voloshyna again defeated her opponent Arantxa Gonzalez from Wingate, 6-1, 6-3. Orozco fell in the second match of the day 6-0, 6-0 to Wingate's Alisa Rudenko. Voloshyna continues tomorrow in the championship bracket while Orozco moves on to the consolation bracket.

Teammates Ece Yuksel and Ingrid Montserrat Montero both dropped their opening round matches but continued on in the consolation bracket. Yuksel fell in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (5), to Queens' Grace Forbes. Montserrat Montero fell 6-2, 6-4 to Augusta's Vicki Wuilloud.

Yuksel and Montserrat Montero join Orozco in the consolation round tomorrow.

Both doubles pairs excelled on day one winning their opening bouts 6-1. Montserrat Montero and Orozco ousted King's Roustand/Smorgonsky duo, while Voloshyna and Yuksel defeated FMU's Zannier/Karatantcheva.
