UMO Track And Field Has Record-Breaking Weekend At Vince Brown And Camel City Invitationals

LYNCHBURG, VA. – The University of Mount Olive track & field teams had a record-breaking performance at the Liberty Kick-Off in Lynchburg, Va. The Trojans saw one NCAA Automatic qualifying mark set, two NCAA Provisional qualifying marks, two school records broken, 12 Conference Carolinas qualifying marks set, and numerous moves in the UMO top-10.

 WOMEN'S NOTABLES

  • Leah Hanle set an NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark in the 3000m, winning the event with a time of 9:33.31. She Also broke the school record in the event while placing 15th overall.
  • Shona Blades also set an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark for the Trojans in the 5000m. Her time of 17:26.84 placed her second in the race and moved her in 2nd place in the UMO record book.
  • The final record-breaking performance was set by Kamber Skeen in the pole vault. The junior set the new UMO best with a height of 2.96m.
  • The weight throw saw three Trojans move places in the top-10 as Candise Lockett, Tameia Morrison, and Princess Lea'E moved into 2nd, 3rd, and 9th respectively.
  • Jacqueline Thring also had a good weekend moving inside the top-10 in the long jump (7th), triple jump (8th), and 400m (2nd).

MEN'S NOTABLES

  • On the men's side, several Trojans made moves in the top-10.
  • Most notably Johnny Middlebrooks set an NCAA Provisional Qualifier in the 400m with a time of 49.17 moving him into 2nd place in the UMO record book.
  • Richard Fisher joined Middlebrooks in the 400m record book by moving into 5th place with his time of 50.15.
  • Demond Cooper also made a jump in the 60m hurdles record book as his time of 8.47 was good enough to put him 3rd overall.
