Trojans Track & Field Breaks Records At VMI Winter Relays

LEXINGTON, VA. – The University of Mount Olive track & field teams had a strong close to the indoor regular season at the VMI Winter Relays in Lexington, Va. The Trojans saw four NCAA Provisional qualifying marks, four school records broken, and numerous moves in the UMO top-10.

WOMEN'S NOTABLES

  • Leah Hanle set an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark in the mile, winning the event with a time of 4:52.81. She also moved into second-place all-time in the UMO record book. 
  • Taylor Moncrief also set an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark for the Trojans in the triple jump. Her distance of 11.84m placed her third in the event and broke the UMO school record as well.
  • The final record-breaking performance was set by Jacqueline Thring in the 200m. Thring set the new UMO best with a time of 25.18.
  • The 3000m saw three Trojans move places in the top-10 as Shona Blades, Amber Owens, and Elise Tanner moved into 3rd, 7th, and 8th respectively.
  • Sydney McCoy also moved in the top-10 in the 200m with her time of 25.84 that was good enough to place her sixth.

MEN'S NOTABLES

  • On the men's side, several Trojans made moves in the top-10.
  • Most notably Johnny Middlebrooks set an NCAA Provisional Qualifier in the 200m with a time of 21.67, which also broke a school record.
  • Arne Leppelsack joined Middlebrooks with an NCAA Provisional Qualifier of his own in the 400m winning the event with a time of 48.52.
  • Lukas Peter and Richard Fisher also moved into 4th and 7th respectively in the UMO record book in the 400m.
  • Michele Marticke made a good jump in the pole vault as his height of 4.05m was good enough to propel him to 4th.

UP NEXT

  • The Trojans' men's and women's track and field teams will compete again at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track and Field Championships where they will look to defend their titles from 2018. The Trojans defending run will begin at 9 a.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C. at the JDL Fast Track.
