PITTSBURG, KAN. – The University of Mount Olive men's and women's track & field team saw Leah Hanle earn an All-American on day one of the NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field National Championships on Friday in Pittsburg, Kansas.

RACE NOTABLES

  • The 5000m was the first event that saw a Trojan capture a first-team All-America with Leah Hanle's 16:22.47 3rd place finish. Hanle moved up to as high as second from the 500m-to-1400m mark before she fell down to third, where the junior finished.
  • Hanle shaved 15 seconds off her time in the 5000m from last year's national championship run when Hanle placed 5th. She also broke the UMO school record in the process.
  • The distance medley relay team of Shona Blades, Jacqueline Thring, Elise Tanner, and Celine Ritter rounded out day one at the NCAA Division II National Championship finished 11th overall just eight seconds away from an all-american.
  • Blades, Thring, and Tanner all set personal bests in their respective legs.

  • Mount Olive will send Leah Hanle to compete tomorrow in the 3000m and the men's 4x400m relay team of Richard Fisher, Arne Leppelsack, Johnny Middlebrooks, and Tedric Shannon. The races will begin after 8 p.m. est.
