University of Mount Olive fell to Erskine College 25-12, 25-15, 25-16 in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Friday at Kornegay Arena. The match was the conference opener for both teams.
Mount Olive (2-8 overall, 0-1 Conference Carolinas) took a 3-2 lead in the opening set after a kill by Dezirae Mackey. Erskine (5-5, 1-0) used a Trojan service error to break a 5-5 tie and take the lead for good. The Flying Fleet broke the game open with a 12-3 run.
Erskine jumped out to early five-point leads in each of the next two sets and Mount Olive was never able to recover.
Mackey led the Trojans with five kills and no errors for a .385 hitting percentage. Casey Fiechter recorded a team-high eight digs.
Marissa Greenough led Erskine with a match-high 10 kills, while setter Kristen Dodge tallied 35 assists, five kills and three aces.
Mount Olive concludes its weekend homestand Saturday against first-year Conference Carolinas member Emmanuel. The contest is believed to be the first meeting between the two schools. Match time is 2 p.m. at Kornegay Arena.
