Mount Olive Wins In Straight Sets Against St. Augustine's

Montgomery Register recorded five of her match high ten kills in the first set as she led the University of Mount Olive to a 25-16, 25-19, 25-19 victory over St. Augustine's University in non-conference women's volleyball Wednesday night

Mount Olive (3-9) appeared to be in control of the first set until St. Augustine's (1-9) tied the set at 12 on two unforced errors by the Falcons and a Kill by Olivia Porter. Sarah Watkins helped the Trojans bounce back later in the set after being up 21-15 with a side out to close the first set on a four point run.

The second set saw the Trojans take the first three points, surrender a point to the Falcons, and then take the next three points back. However it looked as though late in the set that down 23-13 to the Trojans that St. Augustine's was due for a comeback as they rallied for five unanswered points.

A service error gave Mount Olive the chance to take the set however they were unable to secure the set on the next serve and gave up a point. Dezirae Mackey came up with the set kill to take the second set for the Trojans.

The third set was secured on a seven unanswered point run midway through the set in which Mount Olive jumped out to a 17-8 lead in route to a 25-19 third set victory.

Register finished with 14 assists, six blocks and one ace to go along with her ten kills, while Mackey finished with eight kills. Alysha Burnett matched Mackey with eight kills and had three aces on the night to combine with seven digs. Sarah Robertson had seven kills to go with two blocks.

Olivia Porter led the Falcons with six kills and Julieesa Thomas was not too far behind her with four kills and nine assists.

The win for Mount Olive is their first of the year that they have clinched in three sets. Mount Olive remains on the road as they travel to Pfieffer this Friday. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
