Mount Olive Defeats Converse 3-1

Montgomery Register racks up 14 kills to lead the University of Mount Olive to a 25-18, 25-15, 23-25, 25-20 victory Friday night against Converse College in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball. Mount Olive after winning the first two sets dropped the third but rallied to gain the final set and the match.

The first set after Mount Olive (5-11 Overall, 2-4 Conference Carolinas) took a 3-0 advantage the Valkeries tied the match at four and then the Trojans took back over spouting five straight points and regaining the lead from which they never let Converse (5-11, 0-5) come back.

In set two the Trojans used a pair of four point rallies and some defensive lapses by the Valkeries to take lead from Converse.

The third set saw Converse fight back midway through the set on a four point attack that allowed them to take a four point lead. However the Trojans fought back and tied the set at 21 and the two teams fought back and forth as they tied two more times before Mount Olive was unable to close out the set and lost it 25-23.

Mount Olive came to life in the fourth and what was the final set as the Trojans found a spark down 6-7 and ran with five straight points that finished on Register's kill to take command of the match and they never looked back.

Register finished with six blocks to go along with her season-tying kill total. Britni Johnson had eight kills and 11 digs. Alysha Burnett finished with five kills and led the team with digs with 12. Samantha Winfield and Aubrey McKinney spit the team in assists with 23 and 20 respectively.

Mount Olive stays south of the border and will take on Limestone College tomorrow afternoon. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
