Mount Olive Falls To Chowan 3-1

University of Mount Olive came back down two sets to force a fourth set but was unable to complete the comeback against Chowan University as the Trojans fell 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 25-17 in women's volleyball Tuesday night in Murfreesboro, N.C. The Trojans had less kills than the Hawks in only one set during the entire match.

Mount Olive (7-20) had a quick five point attack early in the first set that allowed the Trojans to take over the lead, however Chowan (21-6) did eventually regained the lead. The Trojans came to within two 24-22 on an Alysha Burnett kill, but a service error allowed the Hawks to take the opening set.

In the second set Mount Olive was able to tie the set four times but could not gain the go ahead point to move in front.

Down two sets the Trojans looked for their comeback. Up 4-3 in the set the Hawks took three unanswered points and after a short back-and –fourth point spread Mount Olive started the attack. With the set in favor of Chowan 13-10, the Trojans went on a 7-to-1 run to retake the set.

The Hawks were not done as they came back to score seven straight points. Mount Olive did not go down without a fight as they took the match on an impressive seven point run of their own. After surrendering a point Danielle Plante put the set away to give Mount Olive the momentum.

The fourth set did see the Trojan offense get to within two points but they two was as close as they got as the Hawks closed out the final set on five point run to take the match.

Sarah Watkins led the team with 11 kills. Plante finished with nine kills. Britni Johnson led the team with 12 digs and also had seven kills.

Mount Olive returns home Friday to Kornegay Arena when they will host Lees-McRae in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
