UMO Falls To Southern Wesleyan 3-0 In Regular Season Finale

University of Mount Olive fell to Southern Wesleyan University 25-17, 25-18, 25-21 in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Saturday at Central, S.C. The match was the Trojans' regular season finale. Despite the loss, Mount Olive had already clinched a spot in the 2014 Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Tournament, which gets underway Tuesday.

After dropping the first two sets, Mount Olive (7-24 overall, 3-13 Conference Carolinas) rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the third set. Kills by Britni Johnson and Mackenzie Call and a block by Megan Hight and Samantha Winfield tied the set 10-10. The two teams exchanged side outs before Southern Wesleyan (22-8, 13-3) scored three unanswered points to take the lead for good. The Trojans cut a six-point deficit down to three and fought off two match points, but the Warriors held on for the win.

Johnson led Mount Olive with eight kills, while Montgomery Register had a match-high seven blocks. Casey Fiechter recorded 15 digs.

Friday night, Mount Olive fell to North Greenville in three sets. Call had a team-high seven kills for the Trojans.

Mount Olive is the North Division No. 5 seed and will travel to Bristol, Tenn., to open conference tournament play against North Division No. 1 seed King, which swept the regular season series against the Trojans. The winner advances to the semifinal round Friday. Match time is 6:30 p.m.
