Mount Olive Finishes Up At Francis Marion University Invitational

The University of Mount Olive completed play in the Francis Marion University Invitational on Saturday as the Trojans fell to Alabama-Huntsville 25-14, 22-25, 25-16, 25-21 and Georgia College 25-14, 21-25, 25-12, 25-10 in non-conference women's volleyball in Florence, S.C. The Trojans in both matches won the second set but dropped the next two sets. 

 

Alabama-Huntsville 3 Mount Olive 1

In the early game Mount Olive (0-7) battled in the second set with a couple of three and four point runs. Cali Watson finished off the second set with a kill to even the game at one.

A five point run by Alabama-Huntsville (8-0) early in the third set led to the Chargers taking the set and the lead. In the fourth set Mount Olive fought back down 16-22 and put together a 5-1 run in attempt to capture the set and force a tiebreaker. A service error stopped the run and gave the Chargers the final set.

Alysha Burnett led the team with a match high 10 kills. Watson also recorded three aces. Nichole Karas and Danielle Stachura both finished with double digit assists.

Georgia College 3 Mount Olive 1

In the nightcap Mount Olive (0-8) rebounded from dropping the first set to Georgia College (4-3) and claimed the second on a three point run by the Trojans. The run was capped off by a Mackenzie Call kill off the set from Danielle Stachura.

In the fourth set Georgia College put together aa 14-3 run to capture the third set. The final set remained the same for Mount Olive as the Trojan offense could not get going.

Call had a match high nine kills. Stachura and Karas both added two aces in the match.

Mount Olive opens up at home on Tuesday September, 15 at 7 p.m. in Kornegay Arena. The home opener is part of It's Bo Time! Can you "Dig It" night sponsored by Bojangles.
