Trojans Fall To Erskine 3-0

Alysha Burnett led with seven kills but the University of Mount Olive was unable to top Erskine College as the Flying Fleet took a 25-15, 25-11, 25-12 victory in Due West, S.C. in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Friday night. Erskine remains Conference Carolinas sole unbeaten team.

Mount Olive (4-18, 3-9) fell down early in the first set As Erskine (17-5, 14-0) took an 8-2 run to lead 11-4. The lead never fell below five for the Flying Fleet in the first set. The second set saw the Trojans keep it close early off. It was not until Erskine's Payton Duncan started another big run up 10-8, that the set was blown open.

The 6-1 run pushed the lead up to five and Erskine did not allow the lead to fall below that for the remainder of the set. Mount Olive kept the Flying Fleet closer in the final set as back-to-back blocks tied the set at eight.  Sydney Kanupp added a kill to tie the set at nine, however the Trojans were unable to take the lead as the Flying Fleet spouted off a five point run and did not look back as they took the match.

Mount Olive remains on the road as the Trojans travel north to face Emmanuel Saturday at 2 p.m. in Franklin Springs, Ga.
