Women's Volleyball Drops Both Matches On Final Day Of USC Aiken Invitational

AIKEN, S.C. - The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team dropped both matches on the second day of the USC Aiken Invitational.

GAME 1 INFORMATION
Score: Anderson 3, Mount Olive 0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-13)
Records: Mount Olive 3-4; Anderson 5-1
Location: Convocation Center

HOW IT HAPPENED
Play-by-Play

FIRST SET
- The battle of the Trojans started off as a close match with UMO trailing 10-7 through the beginning of the match.
- Anderson took control of the lead after a 15-9 run to close out the set 25-16.

SECOND SET
- UMO opened up the second set with a small 4-3 lead. 
- Anderson and Mount Olive went back and forth tying the score five times before either team gained a lead.
- Unfortunately, the UMO Trojans were unable to score the final three points to win the set as the Anderson Trojans won out 25-22.

THIRD SET
- A kill by Britni Johnson put the Trojans within one point, 4-3, but Anderson slowly snuck away going up by seven points (12-5) at the first UMO called timeout.
- Mount Olive couldn't gain momentum as Anderson closed out the match on a 13-8 run winning the set 25-13 and the match 3-0.

KEY STATS
- Kamber Skeen kept her weekend rolling with 21 assists on the day and nine digs.
- Kaitlin Grote led the Trojans with 10 kills with Britni Johnson close behind with seven.

 

GAME 2 INFORMATION
Score: Lander 3, Mount Olive 0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-22)
Records: Mount Olive 3-5; Lander 7-1
Location: Convocation Center

HOW IT HAPPENED
Play-by-Play

FIRST SET
- The first set of game two started out neck and neck with the score sitting tied at six all.
- Lander jumped ahead on six straight kills to lead 14-6.
- The Trojans could not battle back from the deficit as the Bearcats ran away with the set to win 25-12.

SECOND SET
- UMO looked good going into the second set taking a 7-4 lead after five Lander errors, an ace and a Kaitlin Grote kill.
- The Bearcats came back to tie and take the lead with inconsistencies in the Trojans offense and too many errors when on the attack.
- LU finished the set with five points from UMO errors and a 25-13 points advantage.

THIRD SET
- The Trojans showed promise in the third set getting out to a 9-4 lead courtesy of six kills. 
- The Bearcats battled back to tie the game 11 all and spurred a back and forth fight the remainder of the set.
- UMO pulled back within one, down 23-22, but a kill and an ace sealed the set 25-22 and the match 3-0 in favor of the Bearcats.

KEY STATS
- Cyerra Carter and Britni Johnson tied for the team lead in kills with six each while Carter led with three blocks.
- Skeen recorded her first double-double with 17 assists and 16 digs to lead the team in both categories.
- Casey Fiechter tallied 14 digs and three assists.

The Trojans return to action as they head to Mount Olive for their home opener as they host Limestone on September 15 at 7 p.m. and Converse on September 16 at 2 p.m.
