Women's Volleyball Falls In Three At Belmont Abbey

Belmont, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team fell in three sets to Belmont Abbey College on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas competition at the Wheeler Center in Belmont, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Play-by-Play

FIRST SET

  • The teams opened the match going point for point until BAC earned a six-point lead, 10-4.
  • The Trojans cut the lead to three, 10-7 before the Crusaders went on a 7-1 run going up by nine points.
  • Mount Olive tried to come back from the deficit but the Belmont Abbey lead was too great as they won set one 25-15.

SECOND SET

  • The second set started off hot for the Crusaders who quickly gained the nine-point lead going up 11-2.
  • The Trojans scored four points to cut the lead to six, 12-6, on two kills, a BAC error and an assisted block by Cyerra Carter and Kamber Skeen.
  • Belmont Abbey went on a 7-5 run putting the score at 19-11 midway through the set.
  • Mount Olive scored seven more points but again fell to the Crusaders, 25-18.

THIRD SET

  • The Trojans had a hard time opening each set as they let the Crusaders gain the 10-3 lead early in the set.
  • Belmont Abbey called a timeout after UMO went on a 9-6 run climbing within four points.
  • Mount Olive battled back within two points, 18-16, but let the Crusaders pull away again as the score grew to 23-17.
  • Four consecutive UMO points got the Trojans back in the set as they trailed 23-21 forcing another BAC timeout.
  • Belmont came out of the break scoring two of the last three points to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.

UMO returns to action next weekend as they host Lees-McRae and King in Conference Carolinas action. First serve is set for 7 p.m. against the Bobcats on Friday, October 6, while the Tornado and Trojans square off at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 7.
