Mount Olive, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team defeated the Bobcats of Lees-McRae in four sets Friday night in Conference Carolinas action at Kornegay Arena in Mount Olive, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Play-by-Play

FIRST SET

  • The Trojans opened up the match with a three-point lead, 6-3, with three kills, an ace and a couple of Bobcat errors.
  • UMO extended their lead to seven, following a 9-5 run which included four kills and two services aces.
  • Lees-McRae fought their way back into the game scoring nine points to pull within one of Mount Olive who led 18-17.
  • The Bobcats tied the set at 22 late in the set forcing a Mount Olive timeout.
  • Following the timeout, the Trojans closed out the set scoring the final three points to win 25-23 and earn the first match point.

SECOND SET

  • The second set opened up with the Trojans going up 7-3 over the Bobcats.
  • LMC came back to tie the set at 10 all before UMO scored four consecutive points to take a 14-10 lead.
  • The score tied once more at 17, but Mount Olive ran away in the end on an 8-4 spurt to take the second set 25-21 and a 2-0 match lead.

THIRD SET

  • LMC came out of the intermission with a chip on their shoulder to start the third set as they quickly ran up the score 9-4.
  • That lead grew to eight, 16-8, as the Bobcats went on a 7-4 run.
  • UMO tried to rally for a comeback as they came within five points, 19-14, but the Bobcats advantage was too large to overcome as LMC took the third set 25-17.

FOURTH SET

  • UMO took whatever momentum LMC gained in the third set and spun it in the Trojan favor as they opened the fourth set on 7-1 run.
  • The Mount Olive lead decreased as Lees-McRae came within two, 9-7, before the Trojans took off scoring five consecutive points to go up 14-7.
  • A 7-4 run by the Bobcats put the score at 18-14 in Mount Olive's favor, who, ran away in the end scoring seven straight points to win the set 25-14 and the match 3-1.

KEY STATS

  • Kamber Skeen had 36 assists and 26 digs, both of which were team highs.
  • Britni Johnson tallied 19 kills and 18 assists to lead the Trojans offense.
