Trojans Drop Season Opener Against Eckerd College

FLORENCE, South Carolina – The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team opened the 2019 season with a three-set loss to the Tritons of Eckerd College on the opening day of the FMU Invitational.

Game Information
The Trojans kept the first set close (25-18), but the Tritons were able to gain the momentum in the second set winning 25-7. The Trojans fought back in the third set but the Tritons held off UMO to win 25-21 and take the match 3-0.
 
Trojan Leaders
Mount Olive was led by a pair of freshmen in Starr Sergent and Keyonna Grandy with five kills each. Essi Penttinen led the team with 11 assists and Jimnelly Del Valle tallied seven digs and two service aces.

Triton Leaders
Eckerd was led by Rachel Wisian with 10 kills and Sydney Case with 26 assists. Paula Hoffmann led the defensive line with 11 digs.

Key Moment
After a competitive first set, the Tritons opened the second set with an 8-1 run that was too much for the Trojans to overcome giving the Tritons a 2-0 match lead.

Up Next: Mount Olive will return to action tomorrow as they compete in two matches, the first at 9 AM against tournament host Francis Marion, and the second at 1 PM against West Alabama.
