Mount Olive Defeats Fayetteville State In Four Sets

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team picked up their second win after defeating the Broncos of Fayetteville State University in four sets on Tuesday evening in Kornegay Arena. The Trojans improve to 2-4 on the season while the Broncos drop to 0-4 overall.

GAME INFORMATION
The Broncos started the game off on a roll taking the first set 25-16 following a 15-6 rally. UMO fought back and claimed the second set 25-19 to tie the match score at one set apiece. An eight-nil run by the Trojans aided their momentum in the second set. Fayetteville State took an early lead in the third set but a 12-2 rally by the Trojans, spurred on by a great serving run from Jimnelly Del Valle, put UMO ahead two sets as they won set three 25-16.

The fourth set was a barn-burner as the Broncos were fighting tooth and nail to force a fifth set, errors by FSU came at the right times and aided the Trojans in winning the fifth set 25-23 and the match 3-1.

Trojan Leaders
Starr Sergent led the Trojan attack with 12 kills and 15 digs with one solo block and two assists. Amara Eziakonwa added 10 kills, three service aces and six digs of her own on the night. Madison Goodman tallied 21 assists on the night with Mia Dietz added 12 of her own. Del Valle led the back row with 26 digs, while Sergent added 15 and Ania Keene recorded 10 digs as well. Alyssa Jackson made three solo blocks in the middle to lead the blocking stat line.

Bronco Leaders
Casandra Watson led the Broncos with a match-high 13 kills on the night as well as posting 16 digs on defense. Da'Nesha Miller added 10 kills as the only other Bronco to hit double-digit kills. Nakia McKinnie led the team with 23 assists in the setter role, while Jasmine Jacinto posted 26 digs to lead the Bronco defense.

Key Moment
The biggest momentum swing came in the third set when Del Valle went on an 11 service run that put the Trojans ahead nine points and aided in UMO winning the third set. The run by Del Valle gave UMO the energy heading into the fourth set to fend off the Broncos who came close to forcing a fifth set but fell to the Trojans 2523 in set four.

The Trojans return to Kornegay Arena this Friday, Sept. 27, as they play host to the Bearcats of Lees-McRae College. The Trojans and Bearcats meet for first serve at 7 PM in Conference Carolinas action.
