Mount Olive Falls To Belmont Abbey And Topples Savannah State In Road Doubleheader

BELMONT, North Carolina - The UMO women's volleyball team split their road doubleheader in Belmont, NC, falling to the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College and defeating the Tigers of Savannah State. UMO moves to 3-7 on the season and 0-4 in conference action.

Game 1
Game Information
The Trojans kept it close in the first set but fell 25-22. The Crusaders had the momentum on their side after that and closed out the match in two more sets, winning 25-15, 25-17.

Trojan Leaders
UMO was led by Starr Sergent with six kills in the first match of the day. Kamber Skeen and Ania Keene were just behind with five kills each.

Madison Goodman and Mia Dietz split the setting role recording eight and seven assists respectively. Jimnelly Del Valle led the backline with 14 digs in the opening match. 

Crusaders Leaders
Belmont Abbey was led by Andie Meredith with 12 kills, while teammate Mackenzie Chrapliwy was second with nine of her own.

Cassidy Bonito recorded 31 assists and a team-high 12 digs. Paige Rawlins was just behind with nine digs in the match.

Key Moment
Following a Mount Olive timeout, the Trojans went on a 6-1 run that forced a Crusader timeout. The Crusaders came back to shut down the Trojans on a 3-1 run winning the opening set 25-22 and claim the match momentum.


Game 2
Game Information
The second game of the day fared better for the Trojans who picked up their third win of the season. After two close sets, the Trojans went into the third with the yearning to win and closed down the Tigers to win 25-9 in the third set and take the match 3-0.

Trojan Leaders
UMO was led by Alyssa Jackson with eight kills. Amara Eziakonwa was just behind her with seven kills in the match, while Keen and Sergent each had six.

Dietz and Goodman again split the setting roll with Dietz tallying 18 assists and Goodman 11. Del Valle recorded just eight digs in the second match of the day and was helped by Goodman who dug up six attacks in the win. 

Tigers Leaders
The Tigers were led by Jeilynn Brown with 13 kills on 24 attacks. Valeria Aldaronda tallied 21 of the teams 23 assists as well as nine digs. Imani Williamson led the backline with 11 digs in the match.

Key Moment
Mount Olive opened the third set on a 10-2 rally that gave them such a lead that was too large for the Tigers to overcome.


Up Next
The Trojans return to action on Friday, Oct. 11, when they travel to Due West, South Carolina, for a Conference Carolinas women's volleyball contest against the Flying Fleet of Erskine. The match between the Trojans and Flying Fleet take to the court at 7 PM. UMO follows the next day with a 2 PM match against the Lions of Emmanuel College.
