Mount Olive Bucks Off Broncos of Fayetteville State in Five Sets

FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team defeated regional opponent Fayetteville State in five sets on Tuesday evening in Fayetteville, NC. The Trojans improve to 4-11 overall while the Broncos drop to 8-6.

GAME INFORMATION
The Trojans won the three odd sets 25-19, 25-18, 15-11 while the Broncos won the even set 25-21 and 26-24 as UMO emerged the victors on the night. 

Trojan Leaders
The Trojans attack was led by Starr Sergent and Amara Eziakonwa with 15 and 13 kills respectively. Madison Goodman and Nicholle Yeo shared the setting responsibilities tallying 40 total assists with Goodman collecting 25 and Yeo 15 assists.

Four Trojans collected double-digit dig numbers led by Jimnelly Del Valle who had 16 digs on the night. Sergent had 13, Faith Herman 11, and Ania Keene 10. Del Valle had a match-high five service aces.

Bronco Leaders
The Broncos were led by Chunna Hunt with 14 kills. She was closely trailed by Casandra Watson and Diamond Holmes with 12 and 10 kills respoectively. Nakia Mckinnie had a team-high 21 assists while Da'Nesha Miller was right behind with 17 assists of her own.

Miller led the defensive backline with 14 digs and Jasmine Jacinto joined her in double-digits with 10 digs on the night. 

Key Moment
The key moment in the match came at the beginning of the fifth set as the Trojans opened the set with a 5-1 run over the Broncos. The early lead helped UMO fend off FSU who came within two-points, 6-4, but no closer as the Trojans closed the set on a 9-7 run to win set five 15-11 and the match 3-2.

The Trojans return to action this Friday as they travel to Murfreesboro, NC, to face Conference Carolinas opponent Chowan University. The Trojans and Hawks meet on the court for a 7 PM first serve.
