Barton Sweeps Mount Olive In Straight Sets

WILSON, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team fell in three sets to the Bulldogs of Barton College on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action. UMO falls to 8-14 overall and 4-10 in conference while Barton improves to 10-12 and 7-8.

GAME INFORMATION
The Bulldogs took the lead early in the first set but UMO drew ahead 7-4 following back to back kills be Starr Sergent. The Trojans kept the Bulldogs at arm's length leading 16-14 before BC went on an 11-3 rally to close out the opening set. Barton opened set two with a 9-2 lead and never relinquished the advantage throughout the rest of the set winning 25-14 and taking a two-nil set advantage. The Bulldogs continued to steam through in the third set again opening an early lead that they never gave up and went on to win set three 25-11 and the match 3-0.

Trojan Leaders
The Trojans were led by Starr Sergent with six kills while Alyssa Jackson was just on her heels with five. Nicholle Yeo and Madison Goodman combined for 15 of the 18 total assists with Yeo tallying nine and Goodman six. Faith Herman led the defense with nine digs with Ania Keene just behind with eight. 

Bulldog Leaders
The Bulldogs were led by Allison Gambill and Kaytlin Elkins with 11 kills and 11 digs each to lead the Bulldogs. Sarah Kirk and Megan McCain split the setting role with Kirk tallying 17 assists and McCain 14. 

Key Moment
The biggest momentum swing came in the first set when Barton came from behind to win set one on an 11-3 rally. The momentum continued in the second set and then into the third with early leads early in the last two sets.

Mount Olive has the week off before hitting the road for the final regular-season road trip of the 2019 season. UMO will play at Converse on Friday, Nov. 15, at 7 PM, and follows with a 2 PM match the next day at Limestone.
