UMO Trojans Defeat Hawks of Chowan in Five Sets on Senior Night

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team defeated the Hawks of Chowan University in five sets on Friday evening at Kornegay Arena in Mount Olive, NC. Seniors Kamber Skeen, Ania Keene, and Allison Cribb were honored before the game on Senior Night. 

GAME INFORMATION
The Hawks took the early lead winning set one 25-22. Mount Olive rallied in the second set cruising to a 25-13 win before dropping the third set 25-19 to the Hawks who took a 2-1 set lead. The Trojans again cruised to an easy win in set four winning 25-14 and in the fifth set held off a rallying Chowan team to win 15-11.

Trojan Leaders
The Trojans were led by Amara Eziakonwa with 17 kills and four solo blocks. Starr Sergent and Ania Keene join Eziakonwa in double-figures with 15 and 13 kills respectively. Sergent led the defensive line with 23 digs in the match, while Keene added 19, Faith Herman tallied 13 and Madison Goodman 12. Goodman led with 27 assists on the night with Nicholle Yeo on her heels collecting 23 in the match. 

Hawk Leaders
The Hawks were led by Anixa Rosa-Martinez with 14 kills in the match followed by Hannah Sladick with 12 and Ann-Marie Johnson with 10. Ciara Ortega led the Hawks with 27 assists while Alexa Woolson tallied 12 of her own. Katie Houston led the backline with 23 digs. Sladick and Rosa-Martinez each added 20 and Ortega 13. 

Key Moment
The biggest momentum swing came in the fifth set. UMO opened on a 9-3 run but the Hawks came back to tie the match at 10-all. UMO managed to hold off CU and won the last set 15-11 closing out the game on a 5-1 run.

Mount Olive travels just up the road to Wilson, NC, for a rivalry matchup against the Bulldogs of Barton College on Saturday, Nov. 9. First serve is scheduled for 4 PM in Wilson Gymnasium.
