Nationally 16th-ranked University of Mount Olive saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end as the Trojans fell to No. 16 Florida Southern 14-6 in the final game of a three-game non-conference baseball series Sunday at Lakeland, Fla. The Trojans swept a doubleheader Saturday to win the series.
The Trojans turned a 4-6-3 double play in the bottom of the third, but Jhalan Jackson's two-out rbi-single broke the tie and put Florida Southern (4-5) ahead to stay. The Moccasins extended their lead to 9-4 with three runs each in the fourth and sixth innings. Jackson, who hit a three-run double in the sixth, went 4-for-5 with two home runs and seven runs batted in. Florida Southern leadoff batter Kyle Richards went 5-for-5.
Gailmard led the Trojan offense, going 3-for-5 with three rbi's. DeAndre Allen and Bretton Gouthro added two hits apiece for Mount Olive. Allen scored three Trojan runs, while Gouthro scored two runs.
Mount Olive returns to action Wednesday as the Trojans play host to Catawba in a non-conference match-up. Game time is 2:30 p.m. at Scarborough Field.
