MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina – The University of Mount Olive women's field hockey team dropped to the Wolves of Newberry College 6-2 in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas action Wednesday afternoon at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive, N.C.
The first quarter was a battle as Newberry started the scoring with two goals, but Mount Olive had the final say scoring a goal with 13 seconds left in the frame off the stick of Railyn King. The Wolves went on to take back the momentum in the second quarter scoring the only two goals pushing ahead 4-1 heading into the break.
After Newberry's fifth goal, Delaney Norr pushed the momentum back in UMO's favor with 8:22 left in the third. The visiting Wolves added one more goal in the third the final goal of the contest and sealed the win 6-2.
Victoria Lane (1-9, 1-7 SACC) in the cage for the Trojans recorded eight saves on 14 shots on goal.
Newberry was led by Brady Keeler who scored three of NC's six goals off seven shots.
The continuing presence of multiple goals being recorded by Newberry proved to be the determining factor in the contest.
