RALEIGH, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team fell 88-74 in a midweek nonconference matchup against the Falcons of Saint Augustine's in Raleigh, NC. The Trojans fall to 3-2 on the season while the Falcons improved to 2-1 on the season.

SAU got on the scoreboard first opening the contest on a 10-0 run in the first three minutes of the game. Mount Olive got on the scoreboard with a pair of buckets, one each from Matthias Caver and Johnny Hughes III, following a called timeout to regroup but the Falcons kept pressing onward taking a 12-point, 19-7 lead, with 13:47 left in the opening half. The baskets seemed to fall in favor of SAU who opened up a 19-point lead, 40-21, with 4:45 on the clock after going on a 21-14 run over nine minutes. Mount Olive scored just seven more points in the opening half as the teams entered halftime with Saint Aug's leading 53-28.

The Trojans tried to chip away at the Falcons lead throughout the second half however the shots would not fall for UMO who was kept around 14 points behind Saint Augustine's throughout the whole second half. UMO scored a few shots late in the second from Darius Spragley but the clock was against Mount Olive who ran out of time and fell 88-74.

Alan Treakle and Darius Spragley led the Trojans with 17 points apiece tonight. Cameron Robinson was the only other Trojan to reach double-digits in the game.

The Falcons were led by Gary Jefferson with 32 points and Jalen Gaddy who added 20. Rashad George joined his teammates with 13 points on the evening as well.

The key moment of the game came in the first three minutes of the game when Saint Augustine's opened up the 10-0 lead right away. That opening by the Falcons set the pace and tone of the game and allowed them to command the court the whole evening.

The Trojans return home this Saturday, Nov. 23, when they open Conference Carolinas action for the 2019-2020 season against the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University. The men's game will follow the women's game which tips off at 2 PM at Kornegay Arena in Mount Olive, NC.
