No. 17 Men's Lacrosse Downs Bobcats Of Lees-McRae 19-6

BOONE, N.C. – The 17th-ranked University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team defeated the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College 19-6 in Conference Carolinas action Sunday afternoon at Watauga High School in Boone, N.C. The game had to be moved from Banner Elk, N.C. due to poor field conditions.

How It Happened


  • Mount Olive won the game's first faceoff and had the first goal of the game within seconds as Austin Whitlow found the back of the net 43 seconds into the game.
  • Lees-McRae answered with two goals of their own to take the lead 2-1 with 11:11 left in the first but Mount Olive did not let the lead stand for long.
  • Nathan Bradley scored with 7:45 on the clock and started a 6-0 run by the Trojans that saw goals by Thatcher Clark, Austin Whitlow, Connor Watson, Nick Petersen and a second goal by Bradley.


  • The Bobcats scored to begin the second with just over four minutes gone to decrease the Trojans' lead to 7-3. 
  • Braydon Hickey gave UMO another run to extend the cushion as after the Tim Collins assist Mount Olive went on another run.
  • UMO went on to score three more times following the score by Hickey and pushed out to an 11-3 lead with under three and a half to play.
  • Lees-McRae scored the final goal of the half as with 19 seconds on the clock the Bobcats drew the deficit to seven.


  • The third quarter was all Mount Olive as Clark scored first with only 41 seconds expiring off the clock and the Trojans went on to put up five goals to LMC's one and moved out to a 16-5 margin heading into the final quarter.


  • The final quarter did not see as much scoring as Austin Robinson (11:32), Tyler Keele (9:43), and Nick Petersen (6:10) scored the only goals for UMO.
  • Lees-McRae only managed one goal in the fourth as the Trojans' defense shut the door to take the final 19-6 victory.


  • Nathan Bradley led the team in goals with three.
  • Caleb Hippensteel led the Trojans from the faceoff x as he was 9-of-15 and grabbed eight groundballs.
  • Tavian Cooley led the defense with three caused turnovers and also picked up three groundballs.
  • Between the posts, Andrew Avarello (W: 4-1, 2-0 CC) picked up the win, making four saves on nine shots.

Mount Olive will return to action March, 5 when the Trojans will host Walsh at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive, N.C. The first face-off is set for 1 p.m.
