Mount Olive Wins Over Wolves In Home Opener

Mount Olive, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team defeated Newberry College in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the ray Mcdonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive, N.C.

Mount Olive won the opening faceoff and wasted no time in getting a goal on the scoreboard as Tim De Ceuster found the back of the net. The Wolves even things up forty seconds later with an unassisted goal, but the Trojans came back with the lead 3-1 with 9:21 left to go. Good defense by both sides only allowed one more goal by both teams, ending the quarter 4-2.

In the second quarter, both teams battled back and forth throughout the second quarter. The wolves clawed their way back when Zachary Sunderland found the back of the net scoring two goals making it 4-7 at 5:33 and Scott Reed topped off the score making the score 7-8 before the half. 

The third quarter, the Wolves came back with a little bit of fire in the third quarter scoring the first goal of the quarter off of Tj Pratt making the game tied 8-8. The Trojans responded with the last two goals that were shot by Conner Watson and Tim De Ceuster.

In the final quarter, Mount Olive's Gunner Parson scored with 13:39 remaining to put the Trojans up by three. The Wolves responded back and scored one with 5:57 remaining. The Trojans were able to shut down the wolves for the remainder of the game with Conner Watson scoring the final goal at twelve seconds making it his seventh goal.

The Trojans were led by Conner Watson with 7 goals.

The Wolves were led by Zachary Sunderland with 3 goals.

Mount Olive will return in action on February 12 when the Trojans will travel to Hartsville, S.C. to take on Coker College. The first face-off is set for 1 p.m.
