Trojans Fall To No. 15 Battling Bishops

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive men's tennis team fell 5-4 to the No. 15 Battling Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon in nonconference action at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center in Rocky Mount, N.C.

  • The Trojans looked good coming out of the doubles round winning all three matches to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Armando Ferreira and Milosh Petrovic picked up the first point with an 8-4 win at doubles No. 1.
  • Martin Moser and Pablo Safont Ferrer got the Trojans a second match point with an 8-6 win at No. 2, and Victor Nunez and Jack Middleton completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win in the No. 3 hole.
  • The Battling Bishops of NCWC came alive in the singles rounds winning five of six to sneak past the Trojans winning a close fought match 5-4.
  • Ferreira was the lone Trojan to win his singles match after a tough three-set battle, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, between the two No. 1 singles players.

  • The Trojans and Battling Bishops played Division III rules where each point is counted toward the overall match score.


Mount Olive is back in action this weekend when they return to the friendly confines of the John Neal Walker Tennis Center in Mount Olive, N.C. The Trojans will host conference rivals Belmont Abbey College on Friday at 2 p.m. and follow with a tough regional matchup against nonconference opponents the Patriots of Francis Marion University at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.
