Trojans Sweep Belmont Abbey - Remain Unbeaten In Conference Play

Angel Dache led all players with 14 kills, while Alex Rivero added 10 kills and five aces as Mount Olive remained unbeaten in conference play with a 25-13, 25-19, 25-21 victory over Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball Saturday at Kornegay Arena. Tim Ebbecke had nine kills and no errors in 10 attempts to help contribute to the Trojans' .363 team hitting percentage.

After winning the first two sets, Mount Olive (7-3 overall, 6-0 Conference Carolinas) trailed by as many as four points in the third set. Belmont Abbey (5-6, 2-6) used a solo block by Nolan Albrecht and a double block by Dustin Buell and Evan Young to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Crusaders took their biggest lead at 15-11 before Mount Olive rallied.

Adam Miracle's kill capped an 11-shot rally as Mount Olive tied the set 17-17. Back-to-back kills by Lewis Einarson broke the tie and put the Trojans ahead to stay. Miracle sent an attack that landed just inside the Crusader right-side line on match point to clinch the win.

Mount Olive jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the opening set as Rivero accounted for six points with four kills and two aces. After a Belmont Abbey timeout, the Crusaders came back with a 3-0 run to cut the Trojans' lead to five, but that was as close as the score would get. Dache's kill on set point gave the Trojans a one-set lead.

In the second set, Trojan setter Ben Casado recorded a kill and an ace during a 4-0 run to break an 8-8 tie and Mount Olive led the remainder of the set.

Einarson and Miracle added seven kills apiece and Casado finished with 39 assists. Defensively, Dan Arnold had 12 digs, while Cassado, Ebbecke and Einarson each recorded three blocks.

Griffin O'Camb led Belmont Abbey with seven kills, while Albrecht and Antony Koyfman shared match-high honors with four blocks apiece. Albrecht and Aaron DeKalb each recorded seven digs.

Mount Olive returns to action Wednesday as the Trojans travel to Hartsville, S.C., to take on Coker in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Mount Olive won the first meeting in three sets January 29 at Kornegay Arena. Match time is 7 p.m.
