Tigerville, S.C. --- The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team swept past North Greenville University, 25-17, 25-16, 25-21, on Friday night in Tigerville, S.C.

How It Happened


  • North Greenville remained right on the Trojans' heels through the first 13 points before UMO went on a 6-1 run to take a 13-7 lead.
  • The Crusaders got back within three at 16-13, but the Trojans once again had an answer as UMO closed the set on a 9-4 run to earn the 25-17 first set win.
  • Mount Olive hit .385 to North Greenville's -.103 in the opening set.


  • The first 12 points of the second set featured five ties before UMO used a 3-0 run to open a 9-6 advantage.
  • After North Greenville tied the set at 10, Mount Olive ran off a 15-6 run to end the frame and capture the second set win, 25-16.
  • The Trojans continued to hit at a high clip as UMO hit .391 in the second set to North Greenville's .000.


  • UMO opened the third set on a 7-3 run that featured a pair of Trojan service aces.
  • As was true all night, North Greenville showed plenty of fight, getting within a single point at 7-6.
  • The Trojans and Crusaders traded points over the course of the following 10 points as UMO maintained its one-point advantage at 12-11.
  • Mount Olive looked to pull away, building a four-point lead at 16-12, but North Greenville answered with a 4-2 run to get within a pair at 18-16.
  • Down the stretch, UMO continued to increase its advantage as the Trojans captured the 25-21 third set win and the 3-0 match victory.
  • UMO recorded its best hitting percentage of the night, .517, in the third set, recording just two attack errors.


  • Junior Bret Rutledge led the way for the Trojans with 17 kills and a .667 hitting percentage in the win.
  • Fellow junior Jeff Yasalonis recorded a double-double with 37 assists and 10 digs in the victory.
  • Senior Andrew Sydow contributed four total blocks to lead UMO.
  • For the match, the Trojans recorded their second-best hitting night of the season, outhitting North Greenville, .436 to .092.
