Trojans Sweep Bobcats In Three

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. --- The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team swept the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College in three sets in Conference Carolinas action on Friday evening at Kornegay Arena in Mount Olive, N.C. Iyanu Adebisi led the Trojan attack with 13 kills while Shane Yeo tallied 31 assists.

How It Happened


  • Lees-McRae scored the first point of the evening but the Trojans answered with three-straight on back-to-back kills be Jarrod Ferguson and an ace to take a 3-1 lead.
  • The Bobcats went on a 4-1 run taking a single-point lead, 5-4, before Mount Olive responded with a six-point run on three kills, a pair of aces and an LMC error to take a 10-5 lead.
  • UMO grew their five-point lead into 10 following a kill by Luke Visgitis that put the set score at 23-13 and Mount Olive won the set on a service error by the Bobcats 25-15.


  • The Trojans scored the first three points on three kills, one by Iyanu Adebisi and two by Eric Visgitis, before the Bobcats scored four points on four UMO errors.
  • UMO settled down and went on a 6-0 rally that put the score at 9-4 as the teams went into a Lees-McRae timeout.
  • Following the timeout, the teams traded points with LMC pulling within four points several times, but UMO opened up an eight-point lead after a 4-0 run going up 17-9.
  • UMO kept the Bobcats at bay to close out the set on an 8-7 run to win the second frame 25-16.


  • Lees-McRae opened the third set taking a quick 3-1 lead over Mount Olive as the Trojans gave up three errors.
  • UMO regained the lead following a 5-0 run that saw two Yigit Erkeck aces, an Adebisi kill, and two LMC errors as the score rose to 7-4 UMO.
  • The Mount Olive lead grew to six-points, 15-9, after an 8-5 run but the momentum shifted to Lees-McRae's side as the Bobcats went on a 9-3 rally to tie the score at 18 all.
  • The score knotted up three times more before UMO put together a string of three points to go up 24-21. 
  • UMO gave up a point on a service error but a kill by Eric Visgitis on the next rally gave Mount Olive set and match point to win 25-22 and 3-0.


  • Iyanu Adebisi led the Trojan attack with 13 kills on 27 attacks for a .333 hitting percentage.
  • Setter Shane Yeo tallied 31 of the teams 33 total assists as well as adding seven digs, tying Ferguson and Adebisi for the team lead during the match.
  • UMO recorded a season-high 11 aces in the contest with three coming from freshman Ferguson, and two each from Yeo, Adebisi, and Erkeck.


Mount Olive returns to Kornegay Arena tomorrow for Conference Carolinas contest against the Tornado of King University. The Trojans and Tornado take to the court on Saturday, February 16, for a 12 p.m. start time.
