Trojans Fall To The Queens Royals In Five

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Mount Olive fell to the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte in five sets in nonconference men's volleyball action on Friday evening in Charlotte, N.C.

How It Happened


  • After each team scored three points to open the set the Royals went on a 9-1 rally taking a 12-4 lead over the Trojans who gave up five errors in the run.
  • Mount Olive chipped away at the Queens lead to pull within four points, 15-11, following a 7-3 run.
  • The Royals held on to a six-point advantage through much of the set and won the set by four, 25-21.


  • Queens took another early lead to begin a set as they went up 9-4 following six errors by Mount Olive.
  • The Trojans climbed back within four points, 12-8, before the Royals went on a 7-2 run to open up a nine-point lead 19-10.
  • Mount Olive could not close the seven-point gap that they faced as Queens took the second set 25-18.


  • UMO came out in the third set with a fire that had been missing in the opening two to take a 7-3 lead.
  • The Royals came within two-points, 9-7, before the Trojans went on another 7-2 run to take a seven-point lead, 16-9 midway through the second set.
  • Following a called timeout, Queens went on a 3-2 spurt but Mount Olive held firm to close out the set on a 7-3 rally winning their first set of the game 25-15.


  • The fourth set began with Queens taking a 4-2 lead but a 5-0 run by the Trojans gave them a slim 7-4 lead.
  • The Royals climbed within a point, 9-8, following a 4-2 run, however, Mount Olive led a 6-0 rally to take a seven-point, 15-8 advantage.
  • UMO held on to a six-point lead, 19-13, but the Royals fought back to knot the score at 22 all following a 9-3 rally.
  • Mount Olive managed to score three of the last four points to hold off Queens 25-23.


  • The teams were even through the first six serves but Queens went on a 5-2 run to take an 8-5 lead as the teams switched sides.
  • A 4-2 run by Mount Olive put the Trojans within two points, but the Royals close the set and game on a 5-2 rally, capitalizing on four Trojan errors to win the set 15-10 and match 3-2.



Mount Olive has a nice long break as they do not return to action on Friday, March 8, when they host the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University in nonconference men's volleyball action. The Trojans and Railsplitters will meet at Kornegay Arena for a 7 p.m. first serve.
