Mount Olive, N.C. --- The University of Mount Olive softball team dropped a pair of games to Francis Marion University, 3-1 and 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon in Mount Olive, North Carolina.

  • Mount Olive got the ball rolling in the bottom of the first as Charlene Thompson dropped down a bunt and beat the throw to give the Trojans a base runner. Thompson then took second on a flyout and scored the following play as a Francis Marion throwing error allowed Thompson to score from second.
  • Francis Marion tied the ballgame up in the top of the fifth on a RBI single.
  • The Patriots took over the game in the top of the seventh as Sam Chiudina scored two runs on an RBI-single to center. The cushion proved to be enough as Mount Olive was unable to rally a comeback in the bottom half.


  • Karen Foley (0-5) picked up the loss in the circle going seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out two.
  • Mount Olive stranded eight runners on base while Francis Marion left nine on base.


  • Mount Olive was unable to mount much offense in game two as the Trojans could muster only four hits in the contest.
  • FMU took control of the game with a single run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth on their way to taking game two 4-0.


  • Kylie Ward (1-1) took the loss for UMO as she went five innings, allowing two runs, none earned, off three hits and walked two Patriots.
  • Thompson and Kelsey Hayes were the only Trojans to record a hit in the final game.
