Central, S.C. --- The University of Mount Olive softball team split a doubleheader with Southern Wesleyan University, 13-1 (5 innings) and 11-3 (Win, 5 innings), on Saturday afternoon in Central, S.C.

  • Mount Olive struck first in the top of the third inning as freshman Kelsey Hayes stole third base and came home on a Warrior error.
  • In the bottom of the third, Southern Wesleyan erupted for nine runs to take a 9-1 advantage.
  • The Warriors added four more runs in the fourth and held the Trojans scoreless in the fifth to take the first game win, 13-1.


  • The Trojans were held to three hits in the opening game, as Hayes, junior Kayla Allen, and freshman Karen Foley all recorded a hit.


  • UMO grabbed momentum early in game two as the Trojans scored a pair of runs in the top of the first and added another in the second to take a 3-0 lead.
  • The Trojans broke the game wide open in the top of the third as UMO scored eight runs and pushed its lead to 11-0.
  • Southern Wesleyan cut the Trojans' lead to 10 at 11-1 with a run in the bottom of the third.
  • In their final opportunity to prolong the contest, the Warriors hit a two-run home run to trim UMO's lead to 11-3, but could draw no closer as the Trojans captured the second game victory.


  • Eight of the ten Trojans who recorded an at-bat tallied a hit in the game with Allen, Foley, and juniors Anna Ingram and Kristin Power each recording two hits.
  • Power led the way for the Trojans with two RBIs in the win.
  • Freshman Emily Chaisson (8-7) earned the victory in the circle, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out a pair.
