Duncan, S.C. --- The University of Mount Olive softball team swept Converse College, 4-2 and 8-2, in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Sunday afternoon in Duncan, S.C.

  • Converse scored first, pushing a run across in the bottom of the first to give the Valkyries a 1-0 lead.
  • UMO took the lead in the top of the fourth as junior Alexis Hobson flied out to center field, scoring junior Anna Ingram and senior JenniBeth Burge hit a RBI single down the third-base line to score freshman Mikayla Koch and push the Trojans ahead, 2-1.
  • The Valkyries tied the game at two in the fifth with a RBI double through the left side.
  • Mount Olive took back the lead in the top of the sixth as Burge reached on a fielder's choice and Ingram scored to push the Trojans back in front, 3-2.
  • UMO added an insurance run in the seventh as freshman Kelsey Hayes sent home sophomore Charlene Thompson on a sacrifice fly that gave Mount Olive a 4-2 lead.
  • Converse threatened in the bottom half of the seventh as the Valkyries placed runners on second and third with two outs, but junior Kylie Ward slammed the door with a game-ending strikeout.


  • Thompson and junior Kayla Allen led UMO with two hits each, while Burge powered the Trojans with a pair of RBIs.
  • In the circle, junior Kylie Ward (W: 5-5) came on in relief, earning the win, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits.


  • Once again, the Valkyries scored first, pushing across two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead.
  • The Trojans responded with five runs in the fifth to give UMO a 5-2 advantage.
  • Mount Olive scored three more runs in the sixth as junior Kristin Power scored on an error and sophomore Callie Ferrell tripled to left field, scoring Thompson and coming around to score on an error herself to give the Trojans their final margin of victory at 8-2.


  • UMO recorded ten hits in the victory with Ferrell, Burge, Thompson, and senior Caitlin Ewers all tallying two hits.
  • Ferrell and Ewers led the way for the Trojans with two RBIs each.
  • Freshman Emily Chaisson (W: 9-10) earned the victory in the circle, pitching a complete seven innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits and striking out three in the win.
