Trojans Fall After A Late Rally To Elizabeth City State 61-50

Ariel Johnson had a double-double for the University of Mount Olive, but the Trojans were not able to recover from a late rally by Elizabeth City State University as they fell 61-50 in Elizabeth City, N.C. in non-conference women's basketball. Mount Olive had the lead for most of the game until the last four minutes of the game.

Mount Olive (3-6) started out of the gate slow as Elizabeth City (5-4) led the game 5-2 three minutes into the game. The Trojans fought back with Ni'Ya Styles as her three-pointer started a 6-0 run to help jump start the offensive. After the run Mount Olive never let the Vikings take back the lead as they took their advantage to 13. Three free throws just before the halftime allowed Elizabeth City to bring the deficit to single digits as Mount Olive headed in up 31-24.

The second half saw a different side as Mount Olive had control for most of the period until late. The Vikings did not allow the Trojans to get a lead higher than five as the game became a lot closer in the final five minutes. Elizabeth City's Jadda Jefferies tied the game with under four minutes to play and the Vikings looked to take control back since early in the first period.

Both teams exchanged buckets and the game was tied for the last time at 48 with 2:55 left. Jefferies took control of the game as she had 10 of Elizabeth City's 12 points in a crucial run that last 2:15 and allowed the Vikings to take the lead for good. Mount Olive was able to stop the run but was unable to comeback as time expired.

Johnson finished with 14 points and 12 boards. Styles added 10 points. Ty Wallace also had eight points and seven rebounds.

Jefferies led the Vikings as she finished with 25 points and 6 boards. Breona Jones rounded out the top scorers with 13 points. Arielle Harris had 12 boards.
