No. 17 Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 19 Bentley 10-7

No. 17 University of Mount Olive fell to No. 19 Bentley University 10-7 Sunday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse.

Mount Olive (7-2) fell behind in the opening minutes as Bentley's (1-2) Meredith Hart, stuck for goal off a pass from Hannah Lindgren and the Falcons took the opening goal with 24 minutes remaining. Lindgren found the back of the goal herself moments later as Hart assisted her with 16:28.

Claire Wigler broke into the scorebook with 10:41 and brought the Bentley lead down to 2-1. The Falcons countered with a goal two minutes later. Candace Corkin scored with 7:05 left in the first half. Caitlin Sabadish was fouled with 3:59 left and was awarded a free position shot. Sabadish was able to beat the Bentley keeper and the game was tied at three.

Bentley however, had the last say in the opening half as Lindgren scored with 2:41 left and took the lead heading into the break.

In the second half Bentley expanded the cushion out to three goals as with 6:54 left in the game, Taylor Lunden scored off a pass from Ciara Morley, and the Falcons led 8-5. Mount Olive then made a run with under four and a half minutes to play.

Corkin was just outside of the crease and struck for goal but her shot deflected off the Falcons keeper right into the stick of Brittany Barron. Barron quickly flipped her stick up underneath of the Bentley keeper and into the back of the net and Mount Olive trailed 8-7.

The one goal differential was as close as the Trojans got as Bentley ended the game on a two goal run.

Wigler led the Trojans' offense with four goals and two draw controls. Maddy Biggar helped out on the defensive side with four caused turnovers. Nicholle Galletti also added two groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Mount Olive will host Rollins College on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Amon Field.
