MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team fell to the No. 23 Bulldogs of Wingate University in the season opener at John Neal Walker Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon in Mount Olive, N.C.

  • The Trojans found themselves behind early as the Bulldogs took all three doubles matches to win the doubles point.
  • Moving on to singles the Bulldogs took all six matches over the Trojans.
  • Arianna Orozco had a close fought match as she fell in the No. 3 spot 6-4, 7-6 with a 9-7 tiebreaker.
  • Deike Schipper, the No. 4 Trojan, fell in another close bout with a score of 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker), 6-2.

  • Order of finish: Doubles (2,1,3); Singles (5,1,3,2,4,6)
  • New rules were implemented this season that changed the point value of the doubles points. Now the first team with two doubles wins gets one match point.


Mount Olive returns to action this weekend as the Trojans head to Florence, S.C., for the City of Florence 2019 College Tennis Invitational. UMO will face the Bearcats of Lander University on Friday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m.
